2023 Subaru WRX STI: When Will We See It?
Subaru has confirmed that there will be a 2023 Subaru WRX STI, well at least that is the model year of the newest generation STI. They have not given us a firm date just yet, but the 2022 Subaru WRX release has hinted on when we might see the 2023 STI.
2023 Subaru WRX STI Release Date
The intended August release of the 2022 Subaru WRX (delayed due to Covid) clearly defined that Subaru wants as much press and build up as possible with the newest generation releases. We can expect the 2023 STI to follow a similar path, delaying through the spring and summer window other car manufacturer’s capitalize in, and releasing at the end of the summer just as anticipation peaks. We expect an end of August 2022 reveal of the 2023 Subaru WRX STI.
When Can You Buy The 2023 Subaru WRX STI?
Right now we are facing a global chip shortage and new cars are hard to find. While expectations of the chip shortage coming to an end are in sight, global supply chain shortages will likely continue for at least another year assuming no surges in Covid. We expect similar delays as we are experiencing right now, and you should assume you won’t be able to purchase the new 2023 STI until the fall of 2022.
What Are The Horsepower Expectations
There is no good news article about the 2023 Subaru WRX STI that does not discuss the latest prediction of power delivered from the factory. We know that the newest generation STI will have the FA24 engine under the hood, and we expect that extra 0.4L of displacement to delivery a hefty increase in power. With the current market, comparable competition, and what the STI needs to survive the next 6-7 years before Subaru will get another go, is a minimum of 375hp, and more likely 400hp to stay competitive.
Will we see this power?
It is still very unclear. There is a nagging speculation that Subaru was not able to make as much power from the FA24 as they had initially expected, and is the reason we saw the 2022 WRX with only 271hp. Some are predicting there wasn’t much more to squeeze out, and they need the STI to be the higher horsepower sibling. This is nothing short of a terrifying prediction, and something we maintain constant vigilance over. (Who gets the reference?) With that said, we will keep digging to find out more information about the newest generation Subaru WRX STI. That is all we and anyone else can promise right now.
